I recently published a YP.com review on my Denver SEO blog located at blog.seanhakes.com. I won’t take too much time in recapping my disgust with how YP, formally YellowPages.com treats their customers and why it’s important as a small business owner to avoid YP.com (AT&T Interactive) at all cost – you can thank me later.

YP.com is unethical. They promote dishonest sales tactics that are designed to capture small businesses in stealthy, long-term contracts that are designed to keep small business owners locked into a product and service that is anything other than a good idea.

Here’s a few quotes from my SEO blog. It also calls out the lack of attention by the press & media contact from AT&T Interactive, Deann Mayeda. If Deann worked for me you can bet she’d be fired.

One of our clients were snickered into a stealthy contract that was based on a powerful sales presentation that to our client sounded well, too good to be true – and it was.

I decided to get involved. I emailed Deann Mayeda, the Press and Media Contact for AT&T Interactive asking for her help and delivering my clients message of dissatisfaction. My complaint seemed as it had very little importance and was quickly handed off to a local sales rep in Denver.

The sales rep/manager called me to discuss my clients dissatisfaction. He soon offered to dissolve the contract in best customer service interest. The problem is; the contract was never dissolved as agreed and was quickly forked over to a local collections team. I gave it one more shot. Here was my most recent email to Deann Mayeda – Deann never responded or even acknowledged my correspondence.

Deann,

I hop you had a nice 4th of July weekend.

This email is in regards to an email I sent several months ago regarding an issue we had with one of our advertisers that we felt was misled into purchasing one of your pay per click products. The person whom I spoke with said they had no problem with releasing our client of their contractual obligations and talking at a later time about getting them into a different product.

My client was recently billed for another $5,000 and is now getting letters for a demand in payment.

I am somewhat dumbfounded by the lack of responsibility and am starting to see a trend with other advertisers having similar problems. We have a very large client base and of that client base we have some very large players as well as many SBAs with YP – some of which have similar complaints. Do you have a point person I can consult with in the near future or do you recommend me contacting the sales reps directly?

I would appreciate YP releasing our client as agreed from their contractual obligations. I will re-evaluate your local sales reps proposal at a later time to see if you have newer products/services we’d like to explore at another time.
